Account Director, Public Relations

A cutting-edge communications agency with a big global footprint has come to The Hired Guns to help them find an innovative Account Director.  These folks have a top-notch roster of amazing brands, and they play in the space where earned and emerging media meet experiential and social.  If that’s your sandbox too, and if you’ve been looking for that rare thing — a start-up opportunity within an established (yet still growing) agency — this is the job for you.

Gun Profile:

Throughout your career in public relations, you’ve always been the smartest guy/gal at the table. Clients love to have you at their side, educating them on how to up the ante on engagement.  You cut your teeth in traditional PR and have been trained by the best firms and mentors in the industry — so pitches, press releases, and media relations are part of your core being.  A killer list of media contacts and the ability to get tier-one media placements are also a must. But you’re also passionate about social and emerging media, with your finger on the pulse of the latest killer app and the stickiest of content.

You’ve spent the bulk of your time on the agency side, and you like it there.  You know how to drive projects and keep accounts.  Clients love you because you’re a true diplomat and coalition builder who can manage expectations and solve business problems.  You can win new business with your big ideas as well as grow accounts incrementally with your strategic outlook and relationship-building capabilities.

You have a strong understanding of how to make brands famous via traditional and digital public relations, social media content and events.  With a background cemented in the earned media space, you will be as comfortable creating a social media amplification plan for a client as you will be crafting a scope-of-work document.  We need a self-sufficient “doer” who is capable of making the right judgment calls in new and unfamiliar situations, who has hatched a string of successful strategic business solutions for clients and agencies, and who makes impressive contributions to their agency that get noticed by the outside world as well.

This agency works with consumer-facing lifestyle brands, so experience working with everything from CPG and lifestyle brands to spirits to technology brands is strongly desired.

Nitty Gritty:

As the Account Director, you will be heavily involved in the strategic planning process while working to ensure the delivery of programs on a day-to-day basis.  On the client side, you will manage the process of enabling earned placements by coordinating earned media (coverage and conversations), blogger outreach, brand advocacy, community management and live events.  Earned initiatives include the delivery of credible content that sparks conversations in the offline and online arenas, along with the management and coordination of the conversation itself.

You will be charged with team development and recruitment, account and business management, and overall team and agency operations.  You’ll lead accounts, including client relationship management, formulation of SOWs and budgets, and KPI setting and tracking.  You’ll participate in creative development for both existing and new business clients.  And you’ll manage, nurture and inspire your team.

Inside Skinny:

When we told you this was a rockstar agency, we weren’t kidding.  These folks are enthusiastic about pop culture, living it on a day-to-day basis.  Music is the lifeblood of the agency, a passion of nearly every person at the company.  If listening, debating, and performing lights your fire, make sure you mention it in your pitch to us.

Net-Net:

This is a close-knit team of passionate, smart and creative people with a fresh perspective and a work-hard-play-hard attitude.  They love to get under the skin of innovation in the digital space and are keen to shine as a part of a team, even as they stand out as individuals for the spectacular work they do.  If you can work effectively outside your comfort zone, this is a fantastic chance to make a significant contribution, both to running the agency and to delivering the global agency vision to clients.  Are you ready to rock and roll?

We encourage you to use the comments to drive conversations to the next level, bounce ideas off our bloggers, challenge them, and engage in dialogue with your fellow readers.
  • Disagreement is fine. If one of our bloggers gets your goat, say so, but elevate the conversation. Substantiate. Strive to teach. Your words might actually change someone's opinion. Don't just rant.
